What's New?
Miscellaneous Improvements
CrystalMaker
3 has been continually improved since its release, and versions
3.1, and later, feature many additional refinements. These include:-
- Improved numeric precision
for bond distance and angle calculations.
- Greatly-improved Edit
Crystal dialog: lattice parameter fields allow one extra
decimal place; xyz fields now allow up to 7 decimal places; trailing
zeroes are eliminated from the atomic coordinates list (making
it easier to check data values) and list columns are now correctly
aligned with the editing fields.
- New Symmetry
Options dialog with a tabbed interface.
- QuickDraw (vector) graphics
export for "photo-colour" images with atom spheres
(N.B., some drawing programs such as Canvas 5 do not correctly
interpret the resolution setting of PICT files and downgrade
QuickDraw/PICT vector graphics to 72dpi; other programs such
as Adobe Photoshop do not have this problem).
- New "flat rendering" mode for atoms, bonds, polyhedra. Allows use of old CrystalMaker-2
"simple colour" style graphics with plain atom discs
framed in white or black.
- New "Hide
Other Molecules" menu command, makes it easier to isolate
a single molecule from the rest of a crystal structure (versions
3.1.3, and later)
- Help buttons added to Info
Window and various dialogs.
- Info Window has new MacOS8-style
greyscale appearance.
- Improved procedure for launching
help files and CrystalDiffract.
- Polyhedra can now be generated
for structures which have only one atom type.
- File menu filename listing
is validated on startup.
- Increased default memory size
from 6000K to 8000K.
- Improved export of PDB
files so that other programs understand atom names better.
- Improved import of SHELX
datafiles: CrystalMaker now interprets the "LATT" card
and adds the appropriate symmetry generators.
- Subtle improvements to toolbars
(newly designed toolbar buttons and shading).
